Aquaponics is related to the growing of plants like Spinach, strawberries, tomatoes, peas, beans and so on, there is a variety! And the process doesn’t stop here in addition to the growing of the plants the fish can also be grown here. There has to be a symbiotic relationship between the aquatic life and plants, after that an eco system is created in which both plants and animals start growing without any chemicals.
This system is opposed by many people they say that the crops can only be grown in presence of the soil in which the growing plants can affix their roots and the essential nutrients can be extracted by them. This system doesn’t need soil and much water so it may lack certain essential minerals.
The answer to the question is that the soil can be the source of the essential nutrients but what is the harm if the same nutrients are provided to them without much effort. Besides that its time and space saving in which you don’t need the vast land to grow your crops and the availability of water has been the issue since ages, the aquaponics system has resolved this problem and crops growing is made easy.
However, this system needs certain things like tanks, pipes and the symbiotic relationship, after you have done that you are ready to grow the crops on your own. The fish feed on the food which will be given by the external environment and then the waste will be released in water, this water is then supplied to the plants which will absorb that waste which is needed for the proper growth, in return ,fresh water is given back to the fish for its proper growth!
The major benefits are the production of crops and the growth of fish which is the best source of the food, it can easily be available at home and the efforts to search these products in the markets are saved.
This system saves the water for other purposes as water is the universal solvent its uses are many and the domestic uses are increasing day by day. The old cultivation system always needed water and man power; also, it is time taking and farmers used to spend much of their time in taking care of their farms. The natural disasters like floods and storms increase the probability of destroying the crops and if that happen, the impact would be on overall population.
There would be a decrease in the crop production. However in this system the crops can be grown in a small place and water usage is also not an issue. The water loss is only through transpiration and recycling, when it is returned to the fish. Overall, this system is replacing the complicated systems of irrigation and is gaining importance day by day. The farmers find it nice to spend their time growing crops at home instead of working hard on the vast lands even when the weather is rough.
